"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.

You're right, I don't use those. I just paint onto the original photo, like I would otherwise do on paper. And I do it all on the same layer, except for if I change the background (which I usually don't.)
Wow, I'm impressed that you can do it on a single layer. If I do anything digital I end up with tons and tons of layers because I always end up going back and fixing things.
